THE CRYPTO-DUDES

The Crypto-Dude series depicts the journey of a character discovering the crypto ecosystem. Walking on code, he's evolving under the blockchain sky made of zeros and ones. Each episode is based on an action or an expression belonging to that ecosystem, such as descending the rabbit hole, pushing a shitcoin, mining a coin, DYOR (Do Your Own Ressearch), and so on. All pieces are video collages based on a hand drawn animation.

CITY PORTRAITS - DRAWINGS

Inspired by the 16th century Italian painter, Arcimboldo who was best known for his portraits composed of plants or objects, this series regroups portraits collated from perspectives, objects, and scenes of a specific city with which the person portrayed has developed an intimate relationship.

Those portraits, also deviate from Arcimboldo’s work in key ways : not just because of the subject matter – the city – but because of the movement that emanates from the drawings. The presence of action inherent to urban life is evident at first sight. These portraits are immediately set in motion once one look closer.

While the person portrayed is animated by the very elements that constitute their environment, they end up animating the environment itself. The environment is humanized in a way that emphasizes the bonds one can develop with their city.

The drawing method here reflects this interplay. Elements depicted are employed both for their form and their content. Depending on the viewer’s proximity and perspective, the eye will favor one over the other, interpreting them entirely subjectively.

URBANOIDS

Personified City Scape

Each Portrait is an urbanoid composed by urban elements all located around one point on the earth.

Their titles are the coordinates that allow to discover where they are from.

This is an on-going series that will feature many places in the world.

SPATIAL ACCRETIONS

accretion : noun the process of new layers or matter being slowly added to something" from Latin accretio(n-), from accrescere 'become larger', from ad- 'to' + crescere 'grow'.
Oxford English Dictionary

Spatial accretions is a series materializing memories of places. Each drawing focuses on a location – whether it’s a room, a neighborhood or a whole city. It captures the spirit of the place rather than the place itself. It brings to light what remained salient in my memory. Through this reverie, the drawings aren’t rendered as exhaustively as they would be for an architectural project, but instead are recreated in a multiplicity of spatial sequences, each representing a unique point of view.

The spatial sequences of the place and their topology are reduced to fragments that are then reassembled. Not juxtaposed, but carefully intertwined. The drawing captures a single place at a specific moment in time, from the perspective of an omniscient observer. The interweaving of different perspectives imbues each drawing with a multidimensional persona. The resulting feeling is that the place itself has evolved into something totally new; one that lives only in my memory.

#TRASHART

This series gathers my contribution to the trashart movement.

I see the trashcan as an allegory of the brain, where everything is dumped into. No matter what it is, where it's from or what it will be used for, we will find a way to recycle it, and produce something meaningful for our lives.

PUNKISM

Each pixel has a story to tell.

The image of Crypto Punk #1010 is encrypted through 448 5 seconds video sequences showing Parisian streets.

Each sequence contains an assembly key to decode the main message.

The cryptographic encoding features two layers : The position of sequences relatively to the others and the coordinates of the color sampling area inside each sequence.

Artwork created for the Punkism show at IHAM Gallery in Paris.

DIGITAL ACCRETIONS

This series is a transcription in the digital realm of the process used for the spatial accretion drawings.

Scenes from reality are superimposed and altered in order to blend together.

This is how i see the raw data of a human memory.

We do not imagine an object from an angle, we imagine all aspects of it, all angles, all possible scenes, and then only we can produce a clear image by filtering out this raw data, but its an invention, a pure creation of the mind.

PIRANESIANISM

A series of pictures of a fire escape staircase somewhere in Paris.

This is a junk space, where esthetics considerations are absent, and where the pragmatism of fulfilling a basic function is the only driving force.

This photographs have no intention to describe the architectural elements, but rather to frame graphical emotions one can get by climbing these stairs.

Once abstracted from its materialistic reality, they become raw materials for reveries, inspirations and stories.

Composed by nine unique A3 laser prints, all digital files are lost.

CROWDS

All emotions are melted. Human nature emerges from this chaotic magma, for the better and the worse.

The merged faces form a continuum where all parts connect in constellations. In our brain are glowing all the past encountered faces, waiting for a trigger to be remembered.

It depicts the vivid movement of a fluid material : our imagination.

Digital bas relief on top of a scanned drawing, an exploration of lights and shadows in four dimensions.

ABSTRACT MATTER

Exploration of the representation of a materiality without substance.

These Charcoal drawings are made following this process : After having drawn a mediocre charcoal drawing, I decided to redraw tiny parts of it into the same format (zooming in x20) with the same tool.

Us beholder are left without meaning except the grain of the charcoal, that triggers our mind to project previous experience of materiality.

It highlights our human impossibility to apprehend the unknown, to deal with pure abstraction.
